in early november, beijing municipal people's government announced the “decision on the beijing science and technology awards for 2022”. according to the “ regulations on beijing science and technology awards”, after evaluation by beijing science and technology awards review committee, approval by beijing science and technology awards committee, and official ly approval by beijing municipal government, a total of 21 scientists and 188 achievements were given . among them, three achievements , which  led or participated by faculty members of the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics (eea), received the first prize.

project “mechanism and method of thermal performance regulation of high-energy density film capacitor polymer dielectric” led by prof. dang zhimins team

high-energy density film capacitors are crucial devices supporting the development of new energy power systems and electromagnetic pulse technologies. professor dang zhimin's team, from a theoretical and methodological perspective, successfully addressed the critical issue of coordinating the difficult-to-control thermal performance of two key polymer dielectric types in high-energy capacitors. they pioneered the academic concept of coordinated control of dielectric properties for high-energy capacitors, revealed the mechanism of decoupling control to enhance the energy density of polymer dielectrics, and established a new method to enhance the electrical-thermal performance of polymer dielectrics for capacitor insulation packaging. this achievement, titled “mechanism and method of thermal performance regulation of high-energy density film capacitor polymer dielectric”, was granted the first prize in beijing natural science award.

project “key technologies, systems, and applications of multi-energy flow comprehensive energy management” led by prof. sun hongbin’s team

integrated energy systems (ies) for electricity, heat, and cold are crucial technological pathways to achieve dual carbon goals. in the past, ineffective coordination between different energy flows led to frequent interlocking accidents, restricting the capacity for new energy consumption and limiting the overall energy efficiency improvement, posing a major technical bottleneck for ies development. professor sun hongbin’s team, over more than a decade, pioneered a new direction in multi-energy flow energy management, established the energy path theory, invented a series of key technologies, and developed the world's first large-scale multi-energy flow integrated energy management system (iems). this system serves as the “smart brain” for the coordinated operation of ies, ensuring green, low-carbon, and safe and efficient operation in several smart cities and low-carbon districts. the achievement, titled “key technologies, systems, and applications of multi-energy flow comprehensive energy management,” was awarded the first prize in the beijing technological invention award.

project“key technologies and applications of large-scale new energy flexible dc power transmission” led by professor zeng rong and associate professor yu zhanqing’s team

flexible dc power transmission can support large-scale long-distance transmission of new energy, bidirectional power transmission, and flexible control of electrical energy. it has become a strategic technology direction for the country. high-voltage dc circuit breakers are the core equipment for building flexible dc systems but have never made a significant breakthrough, remaining a world problem that has plagued the electrical engineering field for over a century. professor zeng rong and associate professor yu zhanqing’s team, over more than a decade, achieved comprehensive breakthroughs from core devices and key technologies to major equipment, successfully developing the world's highest voltage level, 535kv/25ka dc circuit breaker with the largest breaking capacity. this breaker was applied in the zhangbei dc grid project, providing 100% clean energy for the beijing winter olympics and achieving international leadership in the field of high-voltage dc circuit breaking technology. the achievement, titled “key technologies and applications of large-scale new energy flexible dc power transmission”, was granted the first prize in the beijing science and technology progress award.
