professor carlo alberto nucci, an academician of the bologna academy of sciences, a professor at the university of bologna, and the director of the power systems laboratory in the department of electrical, electronic, and information engineering, was appointed as a distinguished visiting professor at tsinghua university in a ceremony and lecture held by the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics (eea) on september 14. the ceremony was presided over by associate professor yu zhanqing, deputy dean of eea, and professor kang chongqing, dean of eea, presented professor nucci with the appointment certificate of distinguished visiting professor at tsinghua university and the certificate of distinguished visiting expert at the tsinghua energy internet research institute. more than 40 teachers and students, including professor he jinliang, director of the academic committee of eea, associate professor sun kai, assistant professor hu jun, and assistant researcher li chuanyang, attended the appointment ceremony and lecture.

following the appointment ceremony, professor nucci delivered a specialized academic lecture titled “energy transition in eu: the role of climate neutrality and smart cities”. in his presentation, professor nucci provided a detailed overview of the key steps the european union is taking to achieve climate neutrality and how smart cities, as the primary drivers of energy transition, are integrating electrical and communication technologies to achieve efficient, clean, and sustainable energy utilization. through case studies, he elucidated italy’s practical applications and achievements in energy transition, as well as the challenges it faces. after the lecture, teachers and students engaged in lively discussions with professor nucci on topics such as smart grids in smart cities, operational strategies for local energy communities, and lightning protection in distributed systems.

before the appointment ceremony, professor nucci also visited the power system dynamics laboratory and the power electronics and motor control laboratory, gaining an in-depth understanding of eea’s research platforms and latest research achievements. professor nucci expressed his intention to enhance collaboration with the power system laboratory in the department of electrical, electronic, and information engineering at the university of bologna, including academic exchanges, joint research projects, and collaborative student training.

carlo alberto nucci is a professor at the university of bologna and serves as the director of the power system laboratory in the department of electrical, electronic, and information engineering. he has published more than 370 journal papers and international conference papers. professor nucci is a fellow of ieee and the international council on large electric systems (cigre) and has received multiple international awards for best papers/technical achievements, including the cigre technical committee award and the iclp gold award. from january 2006 to september 2012, he served as the chairman of the cigre c4 system technical performance study committee. he also served as the ieee pes region 8 representative in 2009. since january 2010, he has been the editor-in-chief of the electric power systems research journal (elsevier). from 2012 to 2015, he served as the chairman of the italian group of university professors in electrical power systems (gusee). he currently serves as the italian representative on the horizon europe task committee on “climate-neutral and smart cities” and as a member of the technical-scientific committee for energy planning in the emilia-romagna region of italy. professor nucci is an honorary doctor at the bucharest polytechnic university and an academician of the bologna institute of sciences. he also serves as the vice chairman of the international lightning protection conference.
