renowned educator and scientist in the field of dynamic power systems in china, ni yixin, an alumna admitted to the department of electrical engineering of tsinghua university in 1963, passed away on july 15, 2023, at 12:15 pm in shanghai at the age of 77, after battling illness with unsuccessful rescue efforts.
professor ni yixin was born in october 1946. she received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from tsinghua university in 1968, 1981, and 1983 respectively. she was the first female doctoral graduate nurtured by tsinghua university, and also the first female doctoral graduate in the field of engineering in china. she held positions such as deputy dean of the department of electrical engineering at tsinghua university, deputy director and director of the state key laboratory of power systems, associate director of the tsinghua university - university of hong kong shenzhen power system research institute, senior member of the institute of electrical and electronics engineers (ieee), senior member of the chinese society for electrical engineering, member of the hong kong institution of engineers, and vice chair of the all-china youth federation.
professor ni yixin was a distinguished educator who devoted her life to teaching and nurturing students, cultivating a large number of professionals including masters and doctors. she was also a renowned expert in the field of dynamic power systems, having published nearly 300 papers, with nearly 200 of them in core journals both domestically and internationally, including over 40 papers indexed by sci. she received honors such as the “outstanding doctoral graduate of china”, national natural science second prize, first prize of science and technology progress from the ministry of education, huo yingdong young teacher award and fund, and national march eighth red-banner pacesetter.
professor ni yixin devoted her entire life to the cause of dynamic power system education and scientific research in china. her passing is a tremendous loss to the field of dynamic power systems education and science in our country. we deeply mourn and remember professor ni yixin with great sorrow.
