the award ceremony of the fourth “three major awards for teaching” was held at chongqing university on april 9. professor yu xinjie from the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics (eea) won the award for outstanding teaching for his outstanding contributions in mooc construction, blended teaching reform, online teaching and some other areas.
the award for teaching masters, award for outstanding teaching and award for innovation and entrepreneurship talents, collectively known as the “three major awards for teaching”, are supported by the ministry of education, organized by the chinese teacher development foundation, and funded by chen yidan public welfare charitable foundation in shenzhen. launched in 2019 and selected and granted once a year, they are currently the most prestigious awards in the field of higher education teaching in china.
in 2013, yu xinjie led the opening of the first mooc at tsinghua university — circuit principles, which was launched on two mooc platforms, edx and xuetangx, and has been running continuously since then, attracting more than 300,000 students from 158 countries and regions. he proposed a new teaching mode of “student-centered teaching and learning” for the course of circuit principles, using teaching methods such as flipped classroom and rain classroom intelligent teaching tools to improve students’ learning effectiveness. the circuit principle has been granted the award for the first batch of national elaborate online open courses, first-class undergraduate courses, and ideological and political demonstration courses. the related achievements have won the special prize for teaching achievements of tsinghua university and the first and second prizes for teaching achievements in beijing.
