on the afternoon of december 29, 2022, the 11th china-korea joint symposium on high renewable energy penetration to power system, co-sponsored by tsinghua university and korea university, was successfully held. professor kang chongqing, dean of the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics (eea) of tsinghua university, and professor gilsoo jang, vice president of korea university, delivered welcome speeches. more than 70 people from nearly 20 universities from china and south korea participated in the meeting, which was themed “china-korea joint symposium on high renewable energy penetration to power system”. the two sides exchanged and learned each other’s achievement and experience on renewable energy grid-incorporating technology, security and stability analysis, scheduling and planning in the field of power system, and fully discussed the opportunities and challenges in the construction of new type power systems oriented by carbon peaking and carbon neutrality with grid-incorporated high-proportion renewable energy.

the symposium was held online and offline, the chinese side are over 30 representative teachers and students from tsinghua university, zhejiang university, huazhong university of science and technology, north china electric power university, shanghai jiaotong university, shandong university, northeast electric power university and hohai university, participating in online reports and discussion, and the korean side are over 40 representative teachers and students from korea university, myongji university, yonsei university and mokpo national university, etc., participating at the venue in korea university offline. scholars of the two sides made in-depth discussion on the safety, stability, low-carbon scheduled operation, planning, inertia evaluation, broadband oscillation, frequency control, power electronics modeling and simulation, renewable energy output forecast and power market mechanism of 100% renewable energy power system. professor xie xiaorong from eea a special report “wide-band oscillations in power systems with high renewable energy penetration".

the china-korea joint symposium, co-initiated by professor kang chongqing from the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics and korean professor youngcheol kang (formerly at chonbuk university, now at yonsei university), mainly presents academic discussions and exhibitions of students’ posters on large-scale renewable energy grid incorporation. it has been held 11 times since 2012. the participating universities include tsinghua university, north china electric power university, zhejiang university, huazhong university of science and technology, shandong university, hohai university, seoul national university, korea university, yonsei university, chonbuk university, chonnam university, inje university and mokpo national university, etc., with more than 600 participants cumulatively. this symposium has facilitated a series of cooperation between china and south korea in cooperative research, short-term courses and personnel exchange visits.
