since september last year, general secretary xi jinping has delivered speeches on “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” and “building a new power system” on many important occasions at home and abroad. the high-tech department of the ministry of science and technology and the industrial development promotion center of the ministry of industry and information technology attach great importance to it, and entrust the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics (“one department and two institutes”) of tsinghua university to lead the organization and development of research on new power system technology. since june this year, the department of electrical engineeringand applied electronicsof tsinghua university has joined forces with more than 30 scientific research units, including power grid companies, power generation groups, enterprises, universities and research institutes, to compile the “technical report on new-type power system”, organized a number of large-scale academic seminars successively,widely listened to opinions and suggestions of all parties,collectedthe consensus ofall fields, andcomprehensively sorted out thekey supporting technologies and development paths of new power system.

on december 23, 2021, entrusted by the industrial development promotion center of the ministry of industry and information technology, professor kang chongqing, director of the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics technology of tsinghua university and dean of the energy internet innovation research institute,releasedthe “technical report on new-type power system” and interpreted the key contents at the keynote sessionof the 3rdieee sustainable power and energy conference (ispec2021).

before the release, liu jianming, director of the expert committee of “smart grid technology and equipment” of the industrial development promotion center of the ministry of industry and information technology, delivered a speech. he introduced the background, milestones and significance of the report, and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the experts and leaders of all participating units for their support.

then, professor kang chongqing released the “technical report on new-type power system” and interpreted themain contents of the report.

from a technical point of view, the report summarizes the main challengesin the construction ofanew power system, clarifies the major basic theories and key core technologies that require forward-looking layout and focus on breakthroughs, and proposesseveral policies suggestions on“accelerating technological innovation ofthenew power system,reforming thesystem andmechanism tostimulate thevitality ofinnovation”. the report will provide strong support for the scientific and technological layout,planning and policy formulation of relevant decision-making departments in the field of energy and power.

accelerating the construction of a new power system andspeeding up the transformation of the energy structure are inevitable requirements to ensure the safe and stable operation ofthepower system and reliable power supply in china, and are also urgent needs to realize the vision of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality involving extensive revolution of power technology, system and mechanism.under the current situation of great changes unseen in a century,developing a number of major basic theories and key core technologies in the energy field will drive the development of the entire industrial chain from material preparation, device research and development, equipment research andmanufacture to system integration, andwill be of great significant toimprove the development of the energy technology industry,enhancechina’s independent innovation capability in science and technology, and seize the technological commanding heights of global low-carbon industry competition and reform.
