from december 15 to 16, the chinese society for electrical engineering held an online awarding ceremony for the china electric power science and technology award. tsinghua university won 2 china electric power technology invention awards and 13 china electric power science and technology progress awards; among them, theproject of“key technology for large capacity dc breaking and development of high, middle and low voltageserialized dc circuit breakers” completed bytsinghua as the first completer won thefirst prize of the technology invention award, and the project of “flexible and efficient integration andregulation technology of thermal power units based on the heat flow method” won the second prize of the science and technology progress award. professor wu wenchuan of the department of electrical engineeringand applied electronicswon the china electric power science and technology outstanding contribution award, and associate professor zhao biao of the department of electrical engineeringand applied electronicswon the award forexcellent young talentofchina electric power science and technology.

in the face of the worldwide difficulty of“large-capacity dc breaking” in the dc grid,which has plagued the power industry for more than a century, the team of professor zeng rong, associate professor yu zhanqing, and associate professor huang yulong of the department of electrical engineeringand applied electronicsof tsinghua university has successfully developed anigct plus device witha 10ka-level breaking capacity,overcome thedifficultiesof voltage balance and two-way flow of large-scale power electronic devices in series, invented a composite modulated power electronic switch suitable for large current interruption of 30ka orabove, and proposed a hybrid dc circuit breakercommutation method with vacuum mechanic switch current flowcoupled anegative voltage device,initially developed a variety of original and superior performance high, medium and low voltage dc circuit breakers, covering 375v/ 10kv/ 100kv/ 535kv voltage levels, 5ka/ 10ka/ 25ka/ 60ka current range, andrealized on-site applications in variousscenarios.

wu wenchuan, a long-employed professor of the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics, tsinghua university, ieee/iet fellow; winner of the national science fund for distinguished young scholars and a leading talent in scientific and technological innovation of the national “ten thousand talents program”,one of the first batch of winners of award foroutstanding young engineers of chinaelectrical engineering, andselected into the new century excellent talents program of the ministry of education, is mainly engaged inthe research of large power gridenergy management and operation control,energy internet/active distribution network operation scheduling and self-discipline control, machine learning theory and its application in energy systems. he has also presided over the research and development of new energy cluster control and grid optimization dispatching systems, active distribution network operation control and reliability planning systems, etc., which have been applied in large-scale power grids at all levels. as the first completer, he won 3 provincial and ministerial first prizes, 1 first prize of national science and technology progress award (4th), and 1 second prize of national technological invention award (3rd).

zhao biao, winner ofaward foroutstanding youngtalent ofchina electric power science and technology

zhao biao, associate professor and doctoral supervisor of the department of electrical engineering and applied electronics, tsinghua university, and a senior member of ieee, is mainly engaged in the research of flexible dc transmission and distribution, dc transformers, power electronic devices, etc, and responsible for and participating in a number of national key research and development programs, major and general projects of the national natural science foundation of china, as well as a number of majortransversal projects and international cooperation projects;he haspublished more than 80 sci/ei papers, edited and participated in the editing of 3 domestic and foreign monographs, and applied for and obtained more than 30 invention patents, and 3 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards. he was selected as elsevier 2019/2020 china highly cited scholars,and selected intothe 5th young talent support project ofchina association for science and technology, and served as the working group convenerof thefirst power electronic transformer international standard iec/sc 22f/ahg 6.

china electric power science and technology award is one of the first batch of 26 awardsestablished by social forcesafter the reform of national science and technology awarding work. this award was established by15 institutions including the chinasociety forelectrical engineering and the state grid corporation of china, andis undertaken bychinasociety forelectrical engineering. the china electric power science and technology award isselected and grantedonce a year, and divided into china electric power science and technology progress award, china electric power technology invention award and china electric power science and technology person award.
