on april 11, 2019, the department of electrical engineering & applied electronic technology (eea), tsinghua university, was officially notified by the ieee power & energy society and approved to establish the tsinghua university ieee power & energy society student branch chapter, which is affiliated to beijing section. prof. kang chongqing, director of the eea, serves as counselor of the student branch chapter, zhong haiwan, leader of research group of the eea, serves as the advisor, and fu yiwei, an academic assistant of the research group of the eea, acts as the interim chairman.
ieee power & energy society is the power & energy society (pes) affiliated to the american institute of electrical & electronic engineers (ieee). it has established the world's largest forum for the power and energy industry, to share the latest technological development of the power industry, formulate industry standards to guide the development and construction of equipment and systems, and provide rich resources for industry staff and the public. the main purpose of ieee pes is to provide sci-tech and engineering information on power and energy for social progress, and to become the preferred professional development resource for members.
the ieee pes student branch chapter is a university or college organization under the ieee pes. student branch chapter will provide students with relevant information and services such as scientific research projects, academic activities, conferences and so on. as of december 2016, the power & energy society (pes) has 240 student chapters in the world, which are composed of pes members from neighboring regions. the purpose of pes chapters is to provide students with opportunities to communicate and learn with other ieee members. by organizing scientific research projects, industry meetings and other forms, student chapters will build regional power and energy talent network to promote the growth of individuals and industries. in addition, pes organizes an annual ieee pes student congress, which is an opportunity for student leaders from various student chapters to gather and discuss best practices, share experiences, listen to and participate in technical lectures, and interact with senior pes leaders and volunteers. the student congress is a worldwide event aimed at promoting communication between students and professionals, disseminating industry technology and enhancing extra skills learning in specific areas of practice.
