prof. zhang pinjia won the 2018 ias andrew w. smith outstanding young member achievement award for his contributions in the field of on-line monitoring and control of motors and drives, becoming the first winner in mainland china since its inception in 1996.
prof. zhang pinjia has been engaged in the research of on-line monitoring, fault diagnosis and warning, control of motors and drive systems for a long time. he has undertaken and participated in many projects of national natural science foundation of china and beijing municipal natural science foundation, and key r&d projects of the ministry of science and technology. his research team has achieved many international leading results in the field of on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis of motors and drive systems, and these results are standing at the international leading level. prof. zhang pinjia is senior member of ieee, secretary of beijing branch of ieee industrial applications society (ias), member of editorial board of ietia and guest member of editorial board of ietie. he serves as technical committee member and special chairman of many international conferences (ecce 2013-2018, iemdc2015, sdemped2017-2019). he acted as an expert of the award committee of ieee ias electric machines committee, expert of the standards committee of the electric drive committee, and liaison of ieee power electronics society motor and drive committee in asia. as the only chinese expert, he participated in the preparation of ieee p-11, p-1812, p-841 and p-1451.
ieee industrial applications society is one of the largest institutes under the association of electrical and electronic engineers (ieee). it is dedicated to meeting the special needs of industry and commerce. the society participates in the formulation of more than 25% of ieee industrial standards and holds a large number of internationally influential academic/technical seminars (including the most influential top-level academic conference--the ieee ias annual meeting) every year. the 2018 ias andrew w. smith outstanding young member achievement award is to recognize young scholars who have made outstanding contributions in the field of industrial applied electricity. one person is rewarded globally every year. the award will be presented at the industrial applications society annual conference/power conversion conference in portland, usa, on september 27.
